“The Old Guard 2” Ends Abruptly Mid-Climax, Leaving Viewers Hanging on Netflix

About 80 minutes into The Old Guard 2, it becomes clear the filmmakers are juggling many loose threads. Charlize Theron’s immortal warriors are fractured and facing extinction, while the anticipated showdown between Theron’s character and the new villain Discord—played by Uma Thurman, the supposed first immortal—is still to come.

The promise of a battle between The Bride and Furiosa may not fully justify this sequel’s existence, now streaming on Netflix, but it creates anticipation. And while the two do face off briefly, the film takes an unexpected turn soon after: it abruptly ends mid-climax.

An actual ending was never planned. This sudden cutoff might be a playful nod to the concept of immortality—after all, what truly is an ending? Yet, unlike the first Old Guard film, which left room for a sequel, The Old Guard 2 simply stops dead in its tracks. There’s no option to “continue watching,” and no guarantee fans will ever see an Old Guard 3.
