Devastating flash floods triggered by the surging Bhote Koshi River have swept through central Nepal near the Tibetan border, leaving nearly 100 people dead and over 700 missing. The floodwaters damaged vital infrastructure and settlements across the Rasuwa, Dhading, and Nuwakot districts. Among the missing are at least 133 Indian nationals, many of whom were traveling as part of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra pilgrimage.
In response to the crisis, India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu are coordinating directly with Nepalese authorities to strengthen rescue and relief operations. The Indian Air Force has mobilized humanitarian aid, placing a C-130J transport aircraft on standby for immediate departure and scheduling a C-17 Globemaster to ferry essential relief materials to the disaster zone. State governments across India are actively tracking the safety of their residents in the region. In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Chennai Central MP Dayanidhi Maran have engaged central authorities to locate 37 missing tourists out of a 57-member group from the state, after 20 were successfully accounted for. Meanwhile, Kerala officials confirmed that a separate 36-member tour group from their state is safe and positioned far from the affected flood zone.
