Oakville invites public input on Housing Strategy

The Town of Oakville is preparing a Housing Strategy and Action Plan and is seeking public input. This consultation supports Council’s vision to be a vibrant and livable community for all. An online survey is now available until October 22, 2023 with additional engagement opportunities coming soon. A strategy reflecting public input will be presented to Council for approval in early 2024.

The Housing Strategy and Action Plan will help improve the housing landscape in Oakville. It will guide decision making and actions to facilitate housing supply, accelerate housing delivery and improve housing choice and affordability.

  • The Town of Oakville pledged to facilitate the creation of 33,000 new homes by 2031 to meet the municipal housing target assigned to Oakville by the Province of Ontario.
  • Aligned with the town’s Official Plan, the draft Housing Strategy and Action plan is structured around six goals and objectives and includes nearly 70 actions intended to achieve positive housing outcomes.
  • A draft Housing Strategy and Action Plan was presented to Town Council on July 10, 2023. Input collected from the public will help refine the strategy and action plan along with other ongoing provincial and regional initiatives.

More details are available in the July 12, 2023 news release.

Mayor Rob Burton, said, “Our Housing Strategy and Action Plan will guide our decision making specific to housing in Oakville. Your input will refine our strategy and ensure that our community’s housing needs are reflected in our plan’s goals and objectives.”
