Sources Confirm India to Present Evidence Against Pakistan at UNSC, Push to List TRF as Terror Group

India is preparing to dispatch a delegation to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) armed with fresh evidence highlighting Pakistan’s alleged support for terrorism, sources have confirmed. The UNSC’s 1267 Sanctions Committee—formally known as the ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee—is expected to convene next week. Established under UNSC Resolution 1267 in 1999, the committee plays a key role in global counterterrorism efforts by monitoring and enforcing sanctions on individuals, groups, and entities associated with ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaida, and their affiliates. It enforces sanctions pursuant to UNSC resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011), and 2253 (2015). India is expected to formally request the committee to designate The Resistance Front (TRF)—a known proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba—as a terrorist organization. This move would subject TRF and its members to sanctions, including asset freezes and international travel bans. India has accused Pakistan of shielding TRF at the UN, specifically pointing to Islamabad’s reported obstruction of a UNSC statement condemning the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians. TRF, which has claimed responsibility for the attack twice, has been involved in numerous acts of violence in Jammu and Kashmir, including targeted killings, grenade assaults, and ambushes. TRF emerged after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and has since played a central role in cross-border militancy, including the recruitment of terrorists and arms smuggling. Meanwhile, Operation Sindoor—India’s military response to the Pahalgam attack—remains underway, signaling a more assertive strategic posture by New Delhi in the region, according to defense sources.
