Time Magazine Plans Launch Of Canadian Arm

Time magazine has announced the launch of Time Canada, a licensed Canadian edition being developed in partnership with Toronto-based ArtsHouse Media Group, the company behind Billboard Canada and Rolling Stone Canada.

The new publication will feature a mix of original Canadian journalism and selected content from Time’s global newsroom. Coverage will focus on business, politics, culture, technology, climate issues and other topics, while highlighting the people and ideas shaping Canada’s place in an increasingly connected world.

Time Canada will operate from a Canadian office with a staff of six full-time and four part-time employees, according to ArtsHouse founder Mo Ghoneim. The publication plans to release one annual print edition, quarterly digital covers, video content, social media features and live events.

The first Canadian cover is expected to be unveiled this fall.

In a statement, Time Chief Executive Officer Jessica Sibley said the brand has always focused on the leaders and ideas influencing the world and described Canada as one of the most exciting markets for expansion. The launch follows recent introductions of Time editions in France and Africa.

The publication arrives at a significant moment in Canada-U.S. relations, as trade negotiations and political tensions continue to shape discussions between the two countries.

Time says it now reaches more than 100 million people globally through its various platforms. Sibley is scheduled to attend a launch event for Time Canada at Toronto’s TIFF Lightbox on Thursday.

The Canadian edition also plans to introduce localized versions of several of Time’s signature franchises, including its events and recognition programs.

ArtsHouse Media Group already operates several Canadian and international editions of major U.S. media brands, including Billboard Canada, Billboard UK, Rolling Stone Canada and Rolling Stone Québec.

Ghoneim said he hopes Time Canada will help bring Canadian stories and perspectives to audiences around the world.

Canadians have recently received significant recognition from the publication. Prime Minister Mark Carney was named to Time’s annual list of the world’s most influential people earlier this year, while Hamilton-born NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was recently included on Time’s list of the 100 most influential people in sports.
