Osler & Osler Foundation Leaders Honoured: Dr. Frank Martino & Ken Mayhew Receive King Charles III Coronation Medal for Transforming Health Care

William Osler Health System (Osler) and William Osler Health System  Foundation (Osler Foundation) are proud to announce that Dr. Frank Martino, President and CEO of Osler,  and Ken Mayhew, President and CEO of Osler Foundation, have each been awarded the prestigious King  Charles III Coronation Medal. This honour is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions  to their communities, public service, or various fields of excellence, demonstrating a level of professionalism  and leadership that have helped shape Canada today. 

Dr. Frank Martino is a highly accomplished Brampton physician and visionary health care leader whose  impact over the last 35 years in his field has advanced the health of Brampton and area residents. Dr.  Martino joined Osler in 1991 and became permanent President and CEO in 2022 – his collective  contributions as a family doctor, clinical educator, medical leader and respected health system advisor have  impacted health care both provincially and nationally. Under Dr. Martino’s leadership, Osler has expanded  services, strengthened partnerships and prioritized innovation, ensuring the organization continues to evolve  to meet the growing health care needs of the communities it serves. 

“It is an incredible honour to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal,” said Dr. Frank Martino. “This  recognition is a testament to the dedication of the entire Osler team, whose commitment to excellence,  innovation, and patient-centred care continues to make a difference in the lives of so many. I share this  honour with them.” 

Ken Mayhew is a dynamic and highly respected leader in the philanthropic sector, with a passion for working  with those who share Osler’s commitment to deliver exceptional health care close to home. Under his  exemplary leadership since 2012, Osler Foundation has experienced continuous revenue growth, securing  critical funding to support hospital priorities, including major redevelopment projects, cutting-edge  equipment, enhanced patient care programs, and advocating and actioning a healthy future for our  community.  

Mr. Mayhew is an active and ardent volunteer whose impact on the philanthropic sector is widely recognized  across the country, including advocacy work with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) to  encourage legislative initiatives to recognize and grow philanthropy in Canada. He is a frequent fundraising  sector spokesperson and has been featured in numerous books podcasts, panels, interviews and media  pieces. He has received numerous awards and his distinguished career in fundraising is featured in Peter  Mansbridge’s best-selling book How Canada Works – The People Who Make Our Nation Thrive

“Fundraising is very personal for me—it’s my calling—so this honour reflects something I am deeply  passionate about—the power of community engagement and of donors who give, be it in amounts large or small,” said Ken Mayhew. “I am grateful to be part of an organization that is making a lasting impact on health  care, and I share this recognition with everyone who continues to rally behind Osler’s hospitals.”

Dr. Martino and Mr. Mayhew were both nominated for this distinguished recognition by Shafqat Ali, Member  of Parliament (MP) for Brampton Centre. Dr. Martino and Mr. Mayhew have been instrumental in advancing  health care in the region, ensuring that Osler’s Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and  Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness continue to provide high-quality, compassionate  care to one of the most diverse and fastest-growing communities in the country.

It is an  honor to recognize Dr. Frank Martino and Ken Mayhew for their outstanding contributions to health care  and philanthropy,” said Shafqat Ali, Member of Parliament for Brampton Centre. “Their leadership has made  a profound impact, particularly in Brampton, where their efforts have transformed the local health care  landscape, diligently serving the local community for years.” 

The King Charles III Coronation Medal recognizes individuals whose contributions have strengthened Canada’s  social fabric and improved the lives of its citizens. Dr. Martino and Mr. Mayhew join an esteemed group of  leaders who have made an enduring impact through their service and dedication.
