FC Bayern Munich has announced that Canadian national team captain Alphonso Davies has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee. The injury occurred just 12 minutes into Sunday’s Concacaf Nations League third-place match against the United States, forcing the Edmonton-born player to leave the field early.

Davies is set to undergo surgery on Wednesday, and the German club has confirmed that he will be out for “several months.” Recovery from an ACL tear can take up to a year. “Phonzy will receive full support throughout his recovery,” Bayern stated.

Canada went on to defeat the U.S. 2-1 in the match. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, is scheduled to begin on June 11.
