After being invited to bat first by England captain Jos Buttler, India faced an early setback when Rohit Sharma (1), the centurion from the previous match, was dismissed on the very first ball of the second over. However, Virat Kohli (52) bounced back to form, building a crucial 116-run partnership for the second wicket with Shubman Gill before falling to Adil Rashid.
Gill (112) continued his fine form, scoring a magnificent century and forging a 104-run stand with Shreyas Iyer (78) for the third wicket. Rashid then struck twice, removing both set batsmen. Hardik Pandya (17) entertained the crowd with two big sixes before Rashid claimed his wicket, leaving India five down.
Axar Patel (13) fell to Joe Root while trying to accelerate the innings, and KL Rahul (40) was dismissed by Saqib Mahmood, slowing India’s momentum. Washington Sundar (14) and Harshit Rana (13) added crucial runs in the final overs, helping India surpass the 350-run mark before being dismissed by Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson, respectively. India was bowled out on the last ball of the innings, setting a formidable total of 356 runs.
